Parco del Mincio

MINCIO PARK: BIODIVERSITY BETWEEN LAKE GARDA AND THE PO

The water of the Mincio river flows for 73 kilometres through a variety of terrain, from the Morainic hills of the lower Garda to the plain through which it runs to its confluence with the Po. The terrain is punctuated by typical natural features and nature reserves, such as the great freshwater wetland of the Valli del Mincio [the Mincio river valleys].
The incredible number of birds, with about 300 species either nesting, resident, migrant or migratory, make its fauna a heritage of high-value. Likewise, the Park’s “green” elements, from the aquatic vegetation of the wetlands to the lowland or riparian woodlands, all comprise the natural capital
of the Terre del Mincio [Lands of the Mincio].
