This stretch of the famous Via Carolingia crosses the southern Garda morainic amphitheatre in the Volta Mantovana area, and gives the visitor the thrill of an ancient pilgrimage, or of an epic medieval journey following the Frankish kings when they descended from alpine passes towards the centre of Italy.
